Twelve commercial stone consolidants were tested on three different limestones: Gobertange, Lavoux and Savionnieres, in Belgium. The preliminary tests permitted the selection a limited number of products which will be tested more systematically. Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the consolidant used in a particular limestone. The results show that out of 12 products under investigation, the ethyl silicates are the most promising.
