Abstract
To achieve higher resolution and wider depth of field than accomplished with the traditional light microscope, the use of electron microscopic techniques is necessary. The author describes three techniques: transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis (EDX). The development of the technique, description of the technique, and sample preparation are briefly summarized for each technique. See also AATA 20-2331.
