Abstract
A cheap and simple electronic design is described for a measuring instrument intended to count marks on a staff or other medium, and to send the results to a computer or tape recorder. A method is given for using such an electronic ranging rod to enable very rapid one-man site contour surveys to be completed. -- AATA
