Abstract
The hydraulic action of an enzyme degreasing product which was prepared from the culture of R. nodosus has been standardized using skin lipids as the substrate. Skin lipid was found to be optimally hydrolyzed at pH 5.8 and 40°C for one hour. Based on these results, a process for the manufacture of suede for leather clothing after enzymatic degreasing has been developed. The data on chemical, physical, and microscopic studies of the suede leather manufactured from sheepskins after enzyme degreasing treatment have been compared with those of the leathers produced after solvent degreasing treatment. A critical evaluation of the results indicated minor differences and hence the enzyme degreasing product can be used with advantage in place of solvent degreasing systems. M.M.K. 20-1159.
