Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs are reported to be effective in the treatment of inflammation by their ability to prevent the release of certain lysosomal enzymes in tissues. Two such drugs, viz., Tromasil and oxyphenylbuta-zone, at 0.25% and 0.5% concentrations delayed autolytic enzymatic unhairing of skin caused by neutral proteinase probably due to the stabiliza tion of lysosomes by the drugs. However, they were ineffective as inhibitors of the neutral proteinase extracted at the time of unhairing. Goat skin samples treated with both the drugs and then cured with relatively low amounts of salt were preserved well for more than a month. -- AATA
