Abstract
Three emulsions, developed for cleaning painting by richard wolbers (winterthur) were described to a meeting of the washington conservation guild (usa), the first was a mixture of xylene, triton x-100 and triethanolamine in water. The proportions of the solvents, the nature of the hydrocarbon and the percentage of triethanolamine can all be varied as necessary. This mixture is designed to remove old dammar films. Another mixture, composed of resin soap (e. g. Triethenolamine abietate), triton x-100 and hydroxyprody methyl cellulose, was used to emulsify the the aged coated directly into a water oil coatings. Npmc, triton x-100, and lipase (a drying oil-hydrolysing ensyme). Another ensyme mixture (composition not given) contains a protein ensyne and was used to remove aged hide glue. -- ICCROM
