Abstract
In small institutions it is sufficient to form an institution-wide Health and Safety Committee; in organizations with multiple departments, separate committees should be formed to deal with the specific needs of each department. The function, composition, and meeting time of the committee are discussed. The overall functions of a health and safety program-inspection, accident/illness reporting and investigation, hazard evaluation and control, emergency planning, education and training, medical surveillance, and monitoring and evaluation may require assistance from outside advisory bodies which are listed.
