Abstract
Capillary washing is based on the principle that if one end of a sheet of paper is placed in water and the other end encouraged to dry, water is drawn to the drying end. This method was adopted for treating the paper end leaves of an early, still bound, Persian parchment manuscript. The in situ method is best applied to printed books with isolated stains in the margin area. -- AATA
