Abstract
The use of low oxygen atmospheres as an alternative to conventional chemical fumigants for the treatment of insect infested museum objects at the Australian Museum in Sydney is described. The advantages and disadvantages of using AGELESS, a commercial oxygen absorber, for generating low oxygen atmospheres is discussed with particular emphasis on its cost effectiveness and practical application for the treatment of large numbers of ethnographic objects.
