Abstract
Bobbin lace and needle lace are the only two techniques that yield what has been established as real lace. Its manufacture is a vanishing art because neither the exceptionally long flax fibers used to manufacture the thread nor the labor required for the intricate designs are available. Nevertheless, there is hope. The textile arts in general are experiencing a revival. Lacemaking courses in England and Czechoslovakia may now be credited toward a degree in some professional textile schools.
