Abstract
Long before Winterthur became a museum, Henry Francis Du Pont prepared detailed notes and instructions on how it should be maintained. These show his concern for the care of objects and his pioneering attitude toward conservation an account is also given of how the conservation centre grow out of a need to conserve the collection and then developed into the Winterthur Art Conservation Program and other educational courses.
