Abstract
Olary is located in a major rock art region of mostly non-iconic (non-figurative) images that have long been considered to be very ancient. 24 sites are described in this paper, one-half of which are rock shelters with paintings and drawings, the other group being rock pavements with patinated petroglyphs. Before describing the galleries the author discusses her methodology, and the region's natural and cultural setting. The actual range of motifs is statistically analyzed. The summary comments on relationships between the rock art, rock type, and availability of water, and on technique and rock art patination or staining. -- AATA
