Abstract
Toward the end of the nineteenth century the maturing Age of Electricity evolved systems for which novel materials were essential components. This led to the development and manufacturing of oxide electrolytic conductors, electrical insulators, incandescent and structural refractories that were modern high-tech ceramics in every sense. This technology arose from a combination of chemistry and engineering joining together to meet the pressing needs of new electrical devices.
