Stable (nonradioactive) isotope ratios can provide a record of prehistoric diet. The ratios of stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes in carbonized plant remains in cooking pots can indicate the food group, and stable isotope ratios in bone collagen can be used to reconstruct diet. -- AATA
