Abstract
The changes in wool fabric properties after plasma treatment were assessed by chemical methods such as alkali and acid solubility, solubility in urea (bisulphate solution) as well as by physical methods (retention of buffer solution after centrifuging, breaking strength, abrasion resistance and seam slippage). Treatment of wool fabrics with low temperature plasma under selected conditions gives fabrics with improved abrasion resistance (100per thousand increase) and higher breaking force (25per thousand increase). No noticeable changes in wool properties have been found by chemical testing methods. The water drop absorption time is reduced from gte 5400 s to less than 1 s after plasma treatment and the water retention is more than doubled.
