Most Breton pottery is made with clay from the altered Armorican platform, with hardly any transport or redeposition. The natural temper constitutes almost half of the volume. Even when the small late Cenozoic basins have been exploited, sands and arenite reflecting the neighboring platform are added as temper. Some examples of these productions, which have been the object of petrographic and mineralogical study, are looked at: the <i>onctueuse</i>, talc rich ware; the <i>Poterie Lamballe</i>, gabbroic ware the pottery from Saint-Jean-la-Poterie, made with Pliocene sedimentary clay, etc.
