Abstract
A mechanism is proposed for water transfer through brickwork in terms of simple hydrodynamic theory. The leakage of water was considerably lower than would be expected from corresponding measurements of air leakage. Experiments indicated this was due to air entrainment and movement of brickwork with varying moisture content. Predominant paths for water leakage were at the brick/mortar interface. -- AATA
