The treatment of a completely segmented painting is described. The parts were first connected on the front with small tissue strips. After mending with PVA emulsion and rayon tissue followed by moisture and wax infusion on the hot table at 5 Hg and 154° F for 45 minutes. The painting was lined to double thread linen canvas with a Pellon interleaf. Weave interference was noted in spite of th Pellon isolation layer. The painting was then marouflaged to untempered Masonite covered with flannel, face down on the hot table at 130° F. A hollow core backing constructed from 1/8 Masonite with balsa wood interior was adhered to the reverse of the marouflaged painting with PVA emulsion adhesive. The assembly was placed on the vacuum table without heat at 5 Hg until the adhesive.
