The Jesuit monastery of San Giusto Jesuits, destroyed in 1529, was a manufacturer of colors and colored glasses. Archival research traces the activities of the confraternity in San Giusto during the XVth century. The colors produced included: ultramarine blue, azurite, malachite, arzicha (perhaps a lead oxide yellow), giallorino (actually identified as tin-lead yellow), Massicot, red lakes (Lacca di cimatura di panno and shellac). Famous artists such as Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Vasari, and Perugino used the pigments manufactured by the convent.
