Abstract
The use of glass microspheres in Acryloid B-72 is discussed as a gap filler for water sensitive materials. Soda lime borosilicate glass microspheres (3M Co.) form a fine white powder of density 0.15 to 0.40 grams/cm<sup>3</sup>. The spheres are 177 microns in diameter or smaller. They allow for a low percentage of resin in a fill. The mixture used was equal volumes of B72 resin, 15% in acetone/ethanol 1:1 and 3M C15/250 microspheres mixed to form a thick but pourable material. The reconstruction of a polychromed wood Egyptian <i>shawabti</i>1 using these materials is described.
