Abstract
Tüchlein , glue tempera medium on linen, is an early Netherlandish technique used for the Virgin and Child SS. Barbara and Catherine attributed to Quentin Massys. Technical examinations disclosed an animal glue medium, linen fibre, and lack of a conventional ground. IR photographs showed an underdrawing and black underpaint. The painting is compared to a Dieric Bouts Entombment executed in the same technique. References, photographs.
