Appearance depends on both specular and diffuse reflection, i.e. gloss and color. A 0/45 degree spectrophotometer, by eliminating specular light unlike the integrating sphere instrument, provides color measurements agreeing with visual evaluation for paints, fluorescent and retroreflective materials.
