This paper discusses the analysis of directional data (where measurements are on a circular scale). As an example, Bronze Age settlement patterns in the Plym Valley, Dartmoor, are examined in terms of door orientations. Various types of graphical display for orientation data, including wrapped and circular histograms, are presented; and a formal analysis is outlined. Ignoring the circularity of such data can be grossly misleading. -- AATA
