The question of whether to conserve or restore technological and social history objects (cars, tractors, etc.) is discussed. The terms conservation and restoration are defined. The thin dividing line between the two concepts is explored with special reference to machinery (agricultural, etc.) and its possible use for demonstration purposes. Should there be a code of practice? Ethical problems such as replicas and the use of the object by the public are considered.
