Tabulation of responses to the second questionnaire about hardware and software in use by archaeological organizations, with an introduction providing some statistics on usage and some associated comment. The results of the survey were compiled into a database, and are summarized in this volume. Some 117 organizations replied to the survey, all but seven of which incorporate computing facilities. Adherence to IBM PC standard is now almost total, and there are fewer home-grown systems recorded. Training is still needed, and the Computer Advisory Service was scarcely used. Appendix 1 is a catalog of institutions responding. Appendix 3 is an index by software type, with a cross-reference to the institution. Appendix 4 is a similarly cross-referenced index to application type. Appendix 2, a digest of software, institutions, and machines, is not printed in this manual, but is available from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England.
