Archaeology for many years was largely a matter of excavating, naming, and then displaying antiquities. In recent years, however, the problems of identifying and preserving objects have become so important, and often complex, that chemists and other specialists in science have been invited to cooperate with archaeologists. This paper is a general account of the contributions of chemists to the work in Egypt.
