The article is a summary of the ISC-sponsored workshop held in Princeton, New Jersey, in October, 1981. It covered ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals (especially bronze) and stone. Causes of deterioration, water, acid rain, environmental considerations, dust, wicking up of water into sculptures, microstructure of corrosion on Cor-ten steel, basic maintenance, finishing methods and problems, patination, and special treatments for stone were covered.
