A description of the materials found to have been used in the construction of the bridge in 1863 introduces an account of the redecking work. Ordinary crown wrought iron of about 355 MN/m₂ (23 y/in₂) tensile strength was used for fabricated girders with puddled steel pins at the nodes. The extent and positions of erosion are commented on and the nature of the replacements described together with details of the difficult operations involved. -- AATA
