A picture book of cast-iron buildings dating from the late 1840's through the 1890's is accompanied by a short essay on the varied construction uses of cast iron (exteriors, supporting structures, alterations) and some words on attempts by the Friends of Cast Iron Architecture and the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission to preserve these buildings. -- AATA
