A blue, molded glass bead with the cartouches of Ahmose and Amenhotep I was analyzed by energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometry. It was found to contain calcium, copper as a colorant, antimony as an opacifier, and strontium and iron impurities. These findings are consistent with known 18th Dynasty parallels. As the cartouche of Ahmose is in the old style, it was concluded that the bead was contemporary with the rule of those two kings, making it one of the earliest known examples of Egyptian glass. -- AATA
