Abstract
This paper describes the role of the museum curator with respect to the intellectual care of collections, as well as the role of intermediary between the artist, the public, and the professional community. The abilities and responsibilities of the conservator are outlined as they complement those of the curator. The symbiotic roles of curator and conservator in the study, preservation, and presentation of works of art are discussed. The author describes the increasing expectations of artists, collectors, and others, which, together with the rising standards of conservators, place new demands on the museum curator.
