Abstract
A project is described to investigate the ancient metallurgy of Oman, in particular, to look for evidence of copper production 4,000 years ago. The question relates to the location of ancient Makan, mentioned in cuneiform texts. Prehistoric metallurgy has been discovered in the Maysar valley, including furnaces, molds, etc., where excavations have been recently made. It is sug gested that Oman is ancient Makan. See also AATA 15-589, 18-743, and 19-1906 for earlier research on this problem. -- AATA
