Recently, excavations of a Hillfort in North Wales have uncovered a 3rd century _BC metalsmith's workshop almost intact. The single ramparted fort of Llwyn Bryndinas, which lies on the southern borders of Clwyd, has revealed a floor of a metalsmith's workshop covered in ash and charcoal, vitrified clay, cinder, iron-working slag and pieces of a bronze melting crucible, the most notable find being a complete and totally undamaged crucible. Technical investigations to be done at The British Museum are expected to reveal how the crucible and its associated hearths were used in the working of bronze, in this case alongside iron, in the middle of the Pre-Roman Iron Age. -- AATA
