Two hundred and thirty-four tokens were analyzed by energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence. Throughout the 13th century the tokens were made of pewter, usually the eutectic composition with about 62 percent tin and the balance of lead. However, there was then a change to lead as the most frequently used metal. Reasons put forward are savings in cost and secular rather than ecclesiastical manufacture. -- AATA
