Abstract
Atmospheric corrosion of metals is primarily caused by sulfur dioxide, chlorides, sulfides, nitrous oxides, and dust. Regional comparisons in the GDR (East Germany) were made by measuring sulfur dioxide damage on outside surfaces. The GDR atmosphere was classified into three types. Damage to exposed objects can be predicted from the type of atmosphere to which it is exposed. -- AATA
