Abstract
The ancient workings at the Rajpura-Dariba mine in western India are described along with the geology of the area. The old workings reach down as far as 254 meters below the surface, with 14C dating of associated wood artifacts placing the mining activity back as far as 3,000 years ago. The early mining and slag remains are among the most extensive in India. The paper describes the modern exploitation methods in use near the old workings, which have been declared a National Monument. -- AATA
