The wrought iron shield or dhal is decorated with a fine silver wire in the koftgari technique. The technique is described. A fine red-brown powder covered the surface of the shield; this corrosion was forcing the silver wire loose. Treatment involved desalination and stabilization of the iron, removal of the iron corrosion, removal of the silver corrosion products, and protection of the metal surface.
