Toxic substances in vapors, mists, gasses, metallic fumes, and dusts found in the artist's or conservator's studio can affect both the male and the female reproductive system, the pregnant woman as well as the fetus, and the newborn infant. Chemicals commonly found in artist's materials that have been assessed in regard to risk are listed; the chemical name, the art process or material in which the chemical is found, and its reproductive effect (whether it affects male, female or newborn, or causes fetal death) are given. Procedures to follow in the laboratory and an abbreviated work area checklist are provided. -- AATA
