Abstract
A routine survey of small mounded tumuli in Asuka was carried out March 21, 1972, in preparation of building a housing development. Upon discovery of the tomb, members of the Archaeological Institute of Kashwara immediately conducted a detailed survey of the site and photographed the paintings. In the fall of that year and again in the fall of the following year, the painting style and the techniques were studied using stereomicroscopy. Restoration work was undertaken and a climate control facility built over the site. The tomb and the paintings are described.
