An analysis and review of methods available for the conservation and cleaning of sculpture. The primary concern of a conservation treatment are hydrophobization and improving chemical resistance of the material. Two methods are discussed: the first treatment changes the structural features of the stone, the second one changes the surface properties. Cleaning of stone sculpture is also discussed with emphasis upon the desirability of the methods used being non-destructive.
