The evidence for the time of introduction to Italy of the technique of blowing glass is reassessed. Ancient literary references, pictorial repre sentations and well-stratified archaeological remains are cited to indicate that blown glass vessels first appeared by the last quarter of the first century B.C., or perhaps slightly earlier. -- AATA
