While the difficulties in doing archaeology with small boats as basic transportation may have seemed overwhelming at times in the preceding discussion, and the cautions sometimes overabundant, it should be reiterated that all necessary skills can be mastered in only a few days or weeks. The investment of time should pay off handsomely and enable the inquisitive archaeologist to explore hitherto unreachable areas or to mount field projects that would have been deemed impossible before. A more general acceptance of small boats as an important logistical aid to field archaeology cannot help but result in an overall increase in the amount of archaeological knowledge about ancient peoples in both inland and coastal environments.
