Abstract
Salts may be derived from ground moisture, stone weathering and from polluted air; they travel in stone both by diffusion and by capillarity. Surface efflorescence, near-surface subflorescence, salt efflorescence, near-surface subfluorescence, salt crystallization, and salt hydration on stone can produce considerable pressure.
