Damage due to acid rain usually takes the form of loss of strength, degradation of aesthetic appeal, damage of function, and shortening of the useful life of cultural artifacts. The severityof the damage is determined by weather and other environmental conditions, physical and chemical characteristics of the material, products of deterioration, and level and nature of the aggressive poilutant.
