Abstract
This note summarizes traditional procedures for processing of silver gelatin photographic films and fibre-based papers to maximum permanence, and also presents more recent recommendations, which include the addition of a so-called toner treatment to the conventional processing sequence. The processing of two recently marketed black-and-white films, Ilford XP-1 and Agfa-Gevaert Vario-XL, is not discussed herein because they contain organic dyes as image-forming substances.
