Abstract
Recent changes in regulations and a heightened social conscience for the use of biocides in the management of pest control are reviewed. The possibility of applying newer treatments involving freezing, anoxic and carbon-dioxide-rich atmospheres are considered and compared to those more conventional pesticide approaches that still remain acceptable. An integrated pest eradication philosophy that relies on prevention rather than sterilization after infection is espoused. Pest control is identified as a management problem applying known technology rather than one needing further technical development.
