Abstract
The coating of metallic objects is one approach to the prevention of corrosion in an environment with chronically high levels of relative humidity. A means of improving coatings by increasing hydrophobicity, wettability and protection against ultraviolet radiation was sought. The addition of an aliphatic perfluoro compound to a range of coatings traditionally used at IAMM was trialled and its efficacy investigated using the Contact Angle Microscope. It was found that the addition of 1 to 2% of an aliphatic perfluoro compound improved the hydrophobicity and wettability of selected coatings when applied to brass coupons.
