Abstract
Reports on two new synthetic resins proposed for use as varnishes for paintings. An experimental method was devised that would allow for close, subjective comparisons of these resins with mastic. The mastic and the synthetic resins were applied using similar techniques. Appropriate solution concentrations of the synthetic resins were determined. The appearance and working properties of the synthetic resins were found to compare favorably with those of mastic varnishes.
