Radiography applied to a painting is not, in fact, a modern discovery but rather the outcome of Wilhelm Roentgen's remarkable perception. We can affirm the usefulness of the technique today from experience gained at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples. Radiography has revealed traces of paintings under the visible paint layer in paintings by Correggio and Titian.
