Abstract
Chemical separation of mixtures traditionally has been a colossal headache for the scientist. Chromatography--a separation technique based on differences in the retention of molecules--has been recognized as one of the more successful methods to separate chemical mixtures and arrive at quality control. Gas chromatography is one of the best available methods for analysis as it is much faster and more efficient than most other methods. Liquid chromatography can separate most chemical mixtures, although its speed and efficiency, until recently left much to be desired. The 820 liquid chromatograph offers not only a high-speed and efficient chemical analysis technique, but also hints that many of today's chemical mysteries may well be tomorrow's commonplace.
